2014 End of Year Book Survey

Welcome to part 2.1 (I’m splitting Best in Books in two parts) of my End of the Year Book Survey hosted by The Perpetual Page-Turner! This is the Best in Books aspect (aka how the hell do I choose?!). This is a great way for me to round up my favourites of the year because there are so many sub-categories :) Without further ado, I give you the best of 2014!

Best Book I Read

Crap. Why is this first – it’s the hardest! JLA and Ilona Andrews always make my top of any year so I think I’m going to choose a book by a different author. So the best book I read this year was The Falconer by Elizabeth May! THE FEELS I HAVE ARE JUST TOO STRONG. KIARAN!!!!!!!!!

Book I Was Excited About & Thought I Was Going to Love More But Didn’t

I’m a bit uneasy about choosing this one. Don’t get me wrong, I really really enjoyed this one – even gave it 4 stars – but I didn’t love it. I was expecting to fall head over heels in love and be absolutely consumed by it but I wasn’t. My choice is Compulsion by Martina Boone.

Most Surprising (in a good or bad way) Book

This one is in a good way. Tarnish by Katherine Longshore just blew me away. I wasn’t really expecting this book to be that good but there is something about it that just grabbed me.

Book I “Pushed” the Most People to Read (and they did)

I pushed my friend to read anything by JLA, specifically the Covenant and Lux series. Aiden & Daemon. Just saying.

Half-Blood Obsidian

Best Series I Started in 2014

The Hidden Legacy series by Ilona Andrews. This was SO good!

Best Sequel of 2014

Two words for this one: Hell. Yeah.

Magic Breaks

Best Series Ender of 2014

I literally sobbed at the end of this series. It wasn’t pretty. JLA takes another place on my list with Sentinel. If you haven’t read this series THEN DO IT.

Favourite New Author I Discovered

Definitely Marie Rutkoski with her book The Winner’s Curse.

Best Book From a Genre I Don’t Typically Read

I’m not very good at reading outside my comfort zone but I read Enduring Love by Ian McEwan for school and actually enjoyed that.

Most Action-Packed/Thrilling/Unputdownable Book

City of Heavenly Fire by Cassandra Clare. My love for TMI is boundless.

Book I Read in 2014 That I’m Most Likely to Reread Next Year

I think I’ll choose Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell for this one. I loved this book and earlier this year I just picked it up and started rereading it, so I think that will probably happen again, especially now that I own it.

Favourite Cover of a Book I Read in 2014

I really want to say The Winner’s Curse but since I’ve already chosen that one I think I’ll go with A Darkness Strange and Lovely. I love the dress!

Most Memorable Character of 2014

I’m going to take the negative route here and say Georgia from Wild by Sophie Jordan. She freaking pissed me off for the whole book. *tries to punch her*

Most Beautifully Written Book of 2014

I don’t care what you say, I’m repeating a book. Sentinel by Jennifer L. Armentrout was beyond beautiful. The writing tore me apart and just obliterated me. There really aren’t enough words to describe how beautiful this one was.

Book I Can’t Believe I Waited UNTIL 2014 To Read

Definitely Outlander by Diana Gabaldon. This book has been around for a long time but I’d never really heard of it. Even when it started getting a lot of attention because of the TV show I still wasn’t that interested. Finally after reading someone’s review of Outlander I went and got a copy and OH MY LORD how good it was!

Well, that’s only half of the Best in Books part of the End of 2014 Book Survey so the rest will be up in a few days. I may have skipped a few out (ssshh, don’t tell!) but I’ve answered the rest.
